New Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023: Prices, Photos, Specs, Design, Power reserve

The New Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 is the first fuel cell vehicle that, according to the Korean manufacturer, along with electric vehicles personifies the future of the automotive industry.

The fuel, namely compressed hydrogen under a pressure of 700 atmospheres, is placed in two gas cylinders located instead of the usual gas tank, one for 40 liters in front of the rear axle, the second for 104 liters behind it.

The fuel cell is located under the hood. Hybrid batteries are located under the vehicle and are concentrated in the center of the overall design for better mass distribution of cars. Inside the fuel cell, anode and cathode plates, and a polymer electrolyte membrane are used.

When hydrogen flows through the anode, it splits into hydrogen protons and electrons. The membrane of polymeric materials passes protons exclusively. The electrons move to the external circuit that drives the engine. At the cathode, electrons and protons react with oxygen, creating water as a result of the reaction and a by-product.

The compact SUV Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 uses 0.95 kg of hydrogen per 100 kilometers.
A rechargeable battery is used to support the operation of the fuel cell system, as well as to generate regenerative braking energy.

Exterior and interior of the New Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023

Outside, the New Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 is the usual ix35, retaining the compact dimensions of a crossover that has become popular among many. This is the main feature of the car, which completely changed the nature of the transmission, visually remained the same. The main difference from the original outside is a functional grille (most electric vehicles are not necessary), behind which there are two radiators, one for cooling the fuel cells, the other for traditional systems such as air conditioning and the other.

There are more changes inside and above all they concern the instrument panel, but on the whole everything is recognizable. The biggest “disappointment” of the interior is the reduced 150 liters due to the presence of a large fuel tank in the rear of the car – the amount of luggage.

Road performance electric fuel cell Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023

The most important advantage of the Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 is all torque available at once. Not that it was too agile, it’s still more than 100 kg heavier than the usual ix35, and 1.5 seconds slower, nevertheless it feels absolutely comfortable in an urban environment for which it is, however, intended.
The work of the power unit provides the necessary working rhythm for a comfortable ride in different situations, there is no lack of power, as there is no excess reserve, those who used the usual Hyundai ix35 may not notice the difference.

Security Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023

Unlike conventional cars with internal combustion engines, the potential owners of the Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 are interested in their safety in the context of using hydrogen as a dangerous fuel.
We note that hydrogen is stored in two cylinders made of aluminum alloy and carbon composite, which have undergone numerous tests and tests, including practical tensile tests under pressure above their performance, tests with scenarios of various accidents and even shooting tests. After them all cylinders were certified as safe for mass production.

As standard security systems, the Hyundai Tucson ix35 FCEV 2023 includes:

6 airbags;
active head restraint – adjusting its position taking into account the weight and height of a person, in order to maximally prevent neck injuries;
4 hydrogen sensors to monitor possible fuel leakage.
